Ebook About All Dr. Sloan Copeland needed was someone to watch her kids. What she found was the man of her dreams…After a nasty divorce and a thousand mile move, Dr. Sloan Copeland and her twin daughters are finally getting the hang of their new life in Los Angeles. When their live-in nanny bails with no warning, Sloan is left scrambling to find a competent caretaker to wrangle her smart, sensitive girls. Nothing less will do.Enter Rafe Whitcomb. He's all of those things, not to mention good-natured and one heck of a whiz in the kitchen. He's also tall, and handsome, and bearded, and ripped, and tatted, wrist to neck. It doesn't take long for the Copelands to invite Rafe into their home. Just as quickly, both Sloan and Rafe find themselves succumbing to a heady mutual attraction, neither of them wants to deny. With every minute they spend under the same roof, this working mom can't help but wonder if Rafe can handle all her needs...**This stand-alone romance is fluffy. So fluffy. It’s fluff. Low. Angst. Fluff. featuring a large tatted, motorcycle riding ginger man, who bakes a mean bacon quiche and knows exactly how to wrangle clever six year olds while making their mom feel loved, loved, loved.**While RAFE is a stand-alone novel here's a suggested reading order to get you to this pointSATED (Fit #3) (Meegan)SO SWEET (Daniella and Duke origin story)HAVEN (Meegan)WRAPPED (Meegan, Shae, Sarah)RAFEBook RAFE: A Buff Male Nanny (Loose Ends Book 1) Review :
This book read like your favorite rocking chair, warmest fleece blankie, happiest music, & adult beverage of choice all combined. It was hard to put down even though I knew early on there would be no surprises. Spending reading time with genuine grown-ups who were both honest and kind was definitely a pleasure. Also, genuine and entertaining kids. These qualities were both the best and worst you could say about Rafe. I was reading it in response to the enthusiastic reviews and not because I needed a moment of comfort, so my feelings are mixed.Other reviews have described the basically drama- & angst-free quality of this novel, so I won't. I'll just briefly say what I liked and what bothered me.I really enjoyed all the people in ths book. The six year old twins were wonderful. Sloan was a sweetie. Friends and family members took the stage for varying amounts of time, but were all well rounded characters. No cardboard and no stereotypes. I especially liked Rafe's family and friends. Even the *sshole ex was well-drawn. He was nasty without being an overblown monster. The very ordinariness of his douchery made it more effective.I liked the way that Weatherspoon used the details of everyday life to define her character's personalities, such as the kids' hiding their lunches when the previous nanny asked them to lie to their mom. Details of hair care were equally revealing and entertaining. Even something as mundane as food choices and prep measured the emotional climate.Sadly, I had some trouble suspending disbelief when it came to Rafe himself. He was wicked likeable and pretty, but sometimes came across as a large, hairy, tattooed plot moppet--too perfect to be true--though I loved that he was ginger. The actual sex was frequent & explicit, but oddly bland unless you find coarse language more appealing than the expression of emotion.****mild spoiler*****I was uncomfortable with the way nanny-ing segued so smoothly into Daddy-hood. After an abrupt ending, an epilogue tied up all the plot threads but one. What was Rafe doing for a living, for a life three years down the road? Maybe I'm over-thinking it, but I don't like the idea of one half of a couple giving up all personal ambition whether that character is male or female. Parenting requires incredible focus, but do we require it to be every thing and only for one parent? I never liked it for heroines. Why would I approve it for the hero? Class plays into this and the economic imbalance between Rafe and Sloan. Cripes, I know I'm over-thinking it, but it's like a pebble in my shoe.****end spoiler*****The other major thing that bothered me (big surprise!) was the scant attention paid to class. Rafe's background is mentioned once as a potential obstacle to a relationship with Sloan but that was it. I didn't expect the story to go all Victorian on me, but--IBK--aren't there differences in culture and expectations between middle class and working class families? Wouldn't that be a possible source of at least mild conflict? For instance, class would have influenced the relationship between Drew and Sloan as well as his ability to get his way. I would have liked to have seen class given the same attention as race, if only as part of the world building. Again, too much suspension of disbelief required for me.I gave this book four stars as a compromise. My honest inclination was to go with three, because for me, the best comfort reads actually require that dynamic contrast between angst and the joy of finding love. I guess I really do need conflict and the pleasure of its resolution. However, beyond some mild editing issues, this novel did exactly what it set out to do, and I respect that. So, four stars. As a reader of colour, highly educated with two offsprings, I cheered for Sloan, who broke away from the shackles of misogyny, domestic abuse, and sexism--all important issues IRL, in a #metoo era. She is in charge and calls the shot in her lifeAnd even though this is genre fiction, author Rebekah gave sensible, level-headed, no-nonsense Dr Sloan real-life situations, plot-twists, and conflicts. And Rafe is a dream. I have yet to meet a full-blooded man who never got angry at a child or woman. If there were more Rafes in this world, there would be more women in the workforce, in STEM-related sectors/workplaces, in positions of power. Oh and my child's paediatric otology surgeon is a woman of colour. We need more WOC surgeons.
