This book was confusing. SOOO confusing. I am afraid my review will likely be confusing too as I try to put it all into words. Ok, so the premise is that one god was upset that he was stolen from, so to punish the families he made their kids vampires. He cursed them to live like that until his property was returned etc. BUT then he kept helping them! Giving them strength, leading them to new lands, doing tons to help them along the way. If he cursed them so they would be miserable for eternity, why on earth was he helping them?? The other god was upset that immortality was given away, so created slayers to hunt them down and gave the slayers gifts too. BUT then THAT god kept messing with the slayers!!! Taking them over, forcing them into pledges they hated, generally making their lives miserable. Huh??? So the angry god that punished did all the helping, and the god that wanted justice for it and gave slayers gifts did all the misery?? I don't get it.And the main reason I marked this series down is that I have a serious problem with a character having no control over their destiny. I want to read about characters that are strong enough to MAKE their own destiny! There were sooooo many countless times in this book where the gods took over the bodies of the characters. Making them move, fight each other, threaten each other, MARRY EACH OTHER--making them say the words and do the actions! WHAT? I hated every second of those times. It was a struggle for me to pull through to finish the series, but the plot was JUST good enough to keep me going. The author has to realize---when they just deal blow after blow after blow to the characters, it does NOT make for an enjoyable read! I need some wins sometime! I know authors drive it to the HEA and feel like that rights all the wrongs, but nope--not for me. I cannot struggle through a series filled with horrible things happening! Then be satisfied that oh ok it managed to turn out ok in the end. It should not be painful to read books.Overall--the plot was good enough to drag my review up to 3 stars. But it was a slow, drawn-out painful going to get there. Be warned. Why are all Vampire books written by women? I read women authors all the time but this is definataly for the ladies and their vampire loves. Not dark enough for me but it is well written and entertaining but not what I wanted so had to quit. However if you like romance novels you will like this series.
